Ugly Win

By Apparao Prattipati

Coming off a big win against Notre Dame, and eyeing a trip to Ann Arbor next weekend, the Nittany Lion’s offense forgot that they had to a game play on Saturday – at least until midway through the second quarter. Fortunately for Penn State, the defense didn’t have as bad of a memory.

After shutting the Bulls down on the opening drive, the Lion offense struggled to get out of its own way as it couldn’t cope with being pinned deep in its own end for most of the 1st Quarter. Austin Scott also added to the pain as he fumbled twice, the 2nd of which was on the Lion’s own 8 yard line. That resulted in a surprising 3 point lead for Buffalo at the end of the quarter.

Rodney Kinlaw came on to replace Scott and did a good job of sparking the offense. He helped a charge for a field goal to tie the game and then paced the way for another drive which ended with Anthony Morelli finding Andrew Quarless for the first of his four TD passes. After that, the Lions hit their stride. A quick turnover resulted in a Jordan Norwood touchdown, as he spectacularly caught a poorly thrown Morelli pass for a 17-3 lead to close the half.

The Lions continued to roll through the 3rd quarter as the Lions eventually staked themselves a 31-3 lead. At this point, The Lion’s defense collapsed, as the first team defense let up 21 points, and more surprisingly it was potential All-American Justin King who was targeted successfully by the Bulls QB. King allowed a long pass and a long TD against his man. When it was all said and done, the Lion’s ended up with a somewhat ugly 45 – 24 win.

While the Nittany Lions got the victory, they had to sweat a bit on both sides of the ball. The offense was slow out of the gates, and the defense didn’t finish the game well. They can be forgiven for a lackluster performance against Buffalo, if they can get a win against the re-invigorated Michigan Wolverines next week in the Big House.

Interesting point you make about the offense was slow out of the gates, and the defense didn’t finish the game well. adult diapers in store
