The Best and Worst from MLB broadcast booths
I love the Mets broadcast team and absolutely agree they belong at #2. No argument with Vin Scully at #1. I've caught the team that does Giants and Red Sox games too and no argument there.
On the bottom 5, I think the Nats team is the worst I've ever heard. They are embarrassing.

ESPN reporting it as well. Supposedly, he had a heart attack at some point last night.

Yep -- I'll bet Yankee fans are wondering if things happen in threes. Hope not, that's enough for one team to bear.

I still can't believe that you took a shot at Sherm Feller. What's next? Apple pie? Motherhood?

It's all over the wire now. Must have been all the calzones from Pisano's that did it.
RIP, Big Stein.
I bet Billy Martin was the first one to meet him at the pearly gates. And, I bet it was an ugly scene.

As a long time and loyal Red Sox fan, we had our complaints about George. However, he knew what he wanted and was willing to spend money to make money. He got the Yankees for a bargain price( from the fools at CBS, who didn't know much about baseball)and rebuilt the franchise into its current status. RIP Boss.

I meant it more as a love tap than a shot. So the guy drank in the booth -- ask Pat Summerall or Tom Brookshier if that's a crime or an honor.

Way back when I was a little kid and Curt Gowdy was the TV broadcaster for the Red Sox, my father always questioned why his nose was shiny red by game's end. Of course, the Red Sox usually lost so my dad was kinda cranky at game's end.

Tough thing. I wonder if they have any other Managers in Hell. Maybe he'll sign a free agent from Heaven.

And just like that, hired Martin back again. Must have realized he was best suited for the job.
For announcers, it's Vin Scully's world, and the rest of them live in it.

For the Pirates fans amongst us, I offer this slim glimmer of hope to you: last year Pirates fans were irate when the team traded seeming rising stars Nate Mclouth and Nyger Morgan. I was amongst those who felt Pirates management really crapped the bed on these deals.
Well, half way through the 2010 season, it does look like maybe the Pirates management's assessment of these two players was not far off the mark. It may turn out that they sold high on these guys.
Mclouth went on the DL in early June and has been playing in the minors of late. To date, in 170 major league ABs he was hitting .176 with 3 HRs, 14 RBIs, 20 runs scored and 4 SBs.
Morgan has been benched by the Nats and is rumored to be on the trading block. Seems the Nats want to give his job to Roger Bernadiner. Although he's been hot the last week or so, he's hitting .252 and has no power. He does have speed and has stolen 20 bases and scored 40 runs, but I think Bernadina is just as fast and is projected to be a better hitter.
It's very early in both their careers to really predict what kind of player either of these guys will be. Some guys struggle and turn into solid hitters later. Of the 2, I think Morgan was a bigger mistake because with his speed all he needs to do is improve his contact and he's bound to get on base more. Still, the Pirates have trouble signing guys long term and it looks like they may have sold them at the high point in their potential Pirates tenure.
Hopefully some of those players they got in return will pan out.
