Autistic chimp on meth.
I won't argue with that description but anything can happen in a long season. If Beltran and Reyes come back and stay healthy the offense should be fairly potent. The pitching, however, is a real problem. You've got Santana, and then you have .... well, really no one.
gmay - I think that idea where he just says he had a down year last year is a great one. I can't see why any MLB GM wouldn't just accept him at his word. Brilliant! And, Hamels is not going anywhere in April. I doubt the Phils would trade him at all, at least not this year.
That reminds of when the Rangers were shopping ARod and Mets fans were calling WFAN and complaining that they didn't get why the Mets wouldn't just trade the bat boy to get ARod and what a great deal that would be. Mike Francesca was like "hello? Maybe it's because the Rangers would not agree?"

Cole has great stuff but he just seems really off his game lately. He is missing his spots horribly. He had a guy down 0-2 in the count last night and he ended up going 3-2 before putting him away with a pitch that would have been ball 4. And his pitches were not really close to the strike zone at all.

Orioles are off to a fast start having already posted one win. They got nipped last night 5-1 by the Rays despite the backing of just over 9,000 crazed fans.
I can easily see them winning another game within the next week or so - if they can post 5-6 wins for April you could easily have crowds of 15,000 if th weather is perfect and they give tickets away - and maybe as many as 50% of those people rooting for the Orioles.
What visiting team wants a piece of that?

When the Yankees or RS are in town, 50% rooting for the Orioles is probably on the high side.
It really is a shame. It's not like the Florida teams, where people basically don't give a sh*t. Orioles fans have been beaten down by years of ineptitude. That franchise has no excuse to stink, other than bad management. Great park and fans who WILL show up if they're given half a reason.

That's one win more than the Astros have. 0 - 7 so far. And 1 less than the Mets, so I feel your pain.
It's only April 12 and a lot can happen in a 6 month season but the O's are most likely going to have another bad year. I agree with dad as to the reason: poor management. There is no excuse for it.
Speaking of no excuse, things are already getting ugly in Queens. The Mets decided to roll the dice with that rotation and so far, to no surprise in my opinion, it is not working out. If things don't turn around Jerry Manuel will be out of a job by mid-June with Omar following not long after. Sadly, Jeff Wilpon isn't going anywhere.

Brooks Robinson and Boog Powell threw out pitches on opening day and word out of Baltimore is "they still got it" - or they have as much as anybody currently on the roster - and they could be called up before the All-Star break if Powell can find someone to man his pit beef Bar-B-Que stand at the stadium.
Don't be shocked if they pull together and challenge for fourth place in NL East.

It takes just a few idiots to give all fans a bad name. And, Philly had had more than their share of idiots that have made very public spectacles of themselves. Who else remembers "fans" throwing mustard packs at Joe Madden's granddaughter and I believe beer was dumped on a 9 year old boy who was part of Madden's family.
Obviously this type of behavior is not limited to any one city and it's usually an overwhelming minority of the people at a game but it really makes everyone look bad (btw, there was a time when I'm not sure it was the minority at Eagles games).
They need to start giving these idiots criminal records and making it known there will be real world consequences to acting like a buffoon in public.

Never thought I'd see the Mets, with Pelfry, shutting out the Rockies in Colorado. Pretty good performance there.

Yes, that was nice. Coors Field is a nightmare for every pitcher so I generally don't take much from a bad performance vs. the Rockies on the road for any pitcher. A good performance, however, is hopefully a sign that Pelfrey has got his mojo back.
Which is good, because I think Maine is toast. I don't think he's really recovered from his arm surgery at all. His velocity is way down and I just don't see it getting better any time soon. I think the Mets are going to cut bait with him after this year if he can't turn it around.

Honest to God. I'd have a hard time restraining myself to keep from beating that guy to death.

Meanwhile, the Phillies Achilles Heel shows itself. The middle relief suuuuuucckkkkkssss.
I think Charlie was just messing around to see who could do what, but that wasn't very pretty giving up a 3 run lead in the 7th.
