You might be benefitting from that being Halloween weekend - families might not want to do a night game that weekend.
I've stayed at the Nittany Budget (been a few years though) - I thought it was a good value for the price.

Good luck, appoo! Let us know how you did. Forgot to mention, I believe every place is requiring a 2-night minimum for that game.

PNNST8, No hard feelings here. You noted your reality and I noted mine. I do think it is sad. Some who are much better at putting their issues, feelings and qualifying decision making points have followed and I agree with them, JC & Chris in particular with Walt similar to me. It is a perfect storm as JC notes and we were "blown away". The premium is no longer worth it or feasible for us at this time.
There are some who will not be impacted and it they are happy with that, God bless them. We had hoped to move our tickets along to our children (I have a name sake so it could have been accomplished) but we would have continued to pay the full fare and more. Now we feel betrayed and will never come back.
We are probably in the minority but our situation is such that there is no longer a "want" to continue. It has become too much a a burden from too many directions for us. That isn't the case for others as noted but there are many passionate "supporters" on this board who are gone now or will be in a year or two. That is a loss to PSU that won't be noted immediately but will years down the road.
Personally I will never understand the football must pay it all mentality and that sports is unsupported outside the revenues it can gin up inside the programs. PA residents pay taxes that support Temple and Pittttt sports then PSU supporters also pay to fully support the entire sports programs here. Fair? The AD and the NLC continue to put this up as a rallying point of distinction and I don't know why people buy into it.

I love this quote from Evan Royster, on breaking Curt Warner's record.
“Yeah, I kind of feel like I don't deserve it at times. I kind of feel like these guys are legends in Penn State history, and as much as I'd love to be talked about in the same category as them, it's hard to say that you deserve that because... I don't know... you wonder if people are going to talk about you like that.
“It's hard to be humble about it, but it's also kind of true. It's how I feel. I mean, I feel like if I was cocky about it and always like, Yeah, I'm going to get it, I feel like it would kind of lose its importance to me, and that's not how I want things to be.”

I admit I am a bit surprised Penn State is ranked this high. I was thinking they would be ranked around #22 or #23.
I'll take it though.

If you were to take the talent and ability of all the teams in America, and compare them all in a measuring cup - Penn State would be top 3. Behind Bama, Florida, and tied with Ohio State. But inexperience at QB and LT make this team much more susceptible to losing then a host of other schools. It really just depends on how you're ranking these teams. I don't think there are 10 teams in America who I think would beat us more often than not, but we play 3 of those teams. I think there are going to be more than 15 teams at the end of the season with a better record.
Things that jump out to me:
Florida at #3 when they have to replace Tim Tebow and key defensive players is ridiculous. Of course Urban Meyer recruits like no other in America.
Four Big 10 teams in the top 15. Three Big 12 Teams in the top 10. I don't think any of the Big 12 teams would finish in the top 3 of the Big 10.
Auburn and Georgia are ranked because they play in the SEC.

Right now, there is someone in Georgia saying Penn State is ranked because they play in the Big 10.

I'm not trying to be biased but that doesn't make any sense. There are only 4 schools in America that won at least 11 games each of the last two seasons - Florida, Alabama, Texas, and Penn State. The last time we took the field, we had average QB play and a team that physically dominated LSU on both sides of the ball and probably should have blown them out if not for some silly red zone play.
We also return a lot of talent. Georgia had to go through an overhaul this summer, and that went just 8 - 5. Auburn was basically lucky to beat Northwestern. I'm not sure why people project them to be any better, when both teams are seemingly treading water.

1) Preseason polls are silly.
2) I think we're a bit too high. I'd rank us somewhere between 18-22.
3) Sorry, appoo, but I don't buy that we have more talent than all but three schools in the country. We have the 6th or 7th best winning % over the past 5 years. That pretty much sums up where we are today. We are in the lead pack of 2nd tier schools. Florida, Alabama, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and USC have been the premier schools over the past 6-7 years. Can we get there? I'm not convinced that we will under JoePa. That isn't to say that I think that we will after he is gone either. We simply don't have enough recruiting firepower and our offensive coaches (outside of MM) are simply not good enough to make it happen.

The one thing I'm **** excited about is the conference championship game. If I hear one more time about Ohio State winning the Big 10 for the last five years I'll rip my hair out.
In 2005 and 2008 we faced Ohio State on the field, and they lost. They have 5 straight Big 10 titles like USC had back to back national championships. I won't be sad to see the disappearance of the bullshit co-champs stuff.

As long as college football has the BCS, preseason polls are not only silly, but unfair as many teams besides PSU have found out recently. These are someone's opinion of teams that have not yet played a down. This is like going into a freshman dorm and picking a kid out to be valedictorian. Others have said it before, but, no polls till every team has played at least 4 games.

I don't see how anyone can vote PSU in the Top 20 at this point.
Iowa, tOSU, and Alabama should all beat us.
We have no established leaders on defense. Not a single AA candidate based upon performance last year.
The special teams look to be mediocre at best. No established punter at this point and obvious weakness in defending and producing in the return game over the past few years.
The quarterback situation is flat out bad. Nobody with any experience on gameday.
At running back Royster is very good, but not the kind of guy you can honestly say can carry a team alone.
I would not be surprised if this team struggles to break .500.
