Illinois Pregame

Postby Crowbar » Wed Sep 19, 2018 5:34 am

I don't think there is much to say here.

Penn State is pretty good.

Illinois is pretty bad.

I still hate Tim Beckman (or whatever that clown's name is).

Penn State 49, Illinois 0.

Illinois has a decent running game thus far. I don't think it will be a shut out. But PSU leading the BIG in sacks and Illinois allowing the most doesn't bode well for them.

Don't forget this game is Friday at 9pm EDT on FS1.

I hate that this is on a Friday. And, I'm not sure if I get FS1. Who's stupid idea was this?

The B1G announced Friday night games a season or so ago. CJF said Penny State would not host a Friday Night game under any conditions. I think this was their little FU to that.

My only concerns are that this is a road game on Friday night. But, as mentioned above, the Illini are not exactly a powerhouse at this time so we should be able to take care of business.

Yeah Franklin is pretty adamant about his strong dislike for the Friday games. Monday is typically their "off" day and the players load up on a lot of classes and labs that day so this messes with that because they have to practice. Plus he says Friday is for high school, which I agree with. A Friday game in State College would be tough since so many people have to travel so far to attend as well. It will never happen for a home game. I guess some of the other schools feel they need the exposure by being the only game on TV. Obviously PSU doesn't. I guess on the plus size there is an "extra" day to rest up for OSU. I'd be surprised if they got back to State College before 4 or 5 in the morning but then they'll have all day Saturday to relax.

PSU was supposed to play a Thursday night ESPN game at Virginia in 2001 but that was the week of 9/11 and the game was rescheduled to the last game of the season, in December.

Friday nights is for highs school football so it makes perfect sense Illinois would sign up for a Friday night game.

Meh- they are kids, it's not like they can't bounce back fairly quickly. Illinois played a game on Saturday, (in Chicago) and they face a short week also.

This game will go the way the first couple of games have gone - Illinois will keep it close, but Penn State pulls away in end of 1st half and 2nd half. The Illini just don't have the horses to keep up with PSU.

PSU 42
Illinois 14

Look on the bright side.

The last Friday night game was in 1982.

We all know how that season turned out. 8-)

I'm hoping this is a blowout by halftime so I'm not up too late.
