2018 Preseason Thread

Postby Crowbar » Mon Apr 23, 2018 7:24 am

I was away this weekend.

Anyone go to the Blue White game? Or watch it on TV? If so, how did they look?

From what I read, they looked pretty good overall and McSorley looked like a legit Heisman finalist.

Thoughts?

I was there, but not sure how much you get out of the game. A LOT of guys didn't play at all or very little. Of the top of my head, the following didn't play: Juwan Johnson, Deandre Thompkins, Yetur Gross Matos, Shane Simmons, John Reid, Jonathan Holland and Tommy Stevens. Thought Parsons played well at LB but theres going to be some growing pains. I think Miles Sanders only had one or two carries as well. McSorley did look fairly sharp, though Zech McPherson almost picked him off twice. Just nice to be back in Beaver Stadium and have fairly nice weather.

Yes. I think you are about to get a lecture from dad about how there is no such thing as a "Heisman finalist".

Trace is exactly why I love college football. He may not ever be a pro but all he does in college is win. He has "it" and finds ways to make things happen. He'll fight for everything he can get every play. And who knows, everybody said Doug Flutie was too small and he made a good living playing pro ball.

Watched some of it on B? network and tend to agree with Shane - it's a controlled scrimmage / practice for than a true scrimmage gain.

If I had a single take away it would be some of the true / red shirt frosh look like they need 10 - 20lbs of weight and muscle - they have the frames to put in on but I didn't see the size that would stand up to Wisky, OSU, UM, MSU, Iowa much less a Bama. I did see length and speed. But as was noted, many upperclassmen did not play.
Wendall : That's very linear Sheriff
Ed Tom : Age will flatten a man Wendall

One of my great regrets in life is that I don't live closer to Beaver Stadium. Then I remember why I don't live closer to Beaver Stadium: Winter.

I just read that Micah Parsons became a father recently. I guess I'm old-fashioned in some ways but geez; 18 years old, just starting college and playing football at a high profile school and now a father. What could possibly go wrong?

I had a similar thought about Barkley and his new kid. He's barely 21, he's just starting out with his career - what's the rush? Happy for him as he seems happy but I wonder if these kids know what they are getting into. Being a parent is a lifetime commitment. I don't know you really get that when you're in your late teens or even early 20s. I wasn't mature enough for a dog at Barkley's age, and he has a kid.
